1996 v6 Driveshaft is Out of Order!

the shaft 12 points are 12mm... I usually put some heat on them, then hit them with the impact.

You use 12 pt impact sockets? I looked for those at harbor freight and didn't see any. They're hard to find

They are easy to find. You buy some chrome (not impact) 12 point craftsman sockets, then you put them on your impact. As long as you are using them on 12 point nuts that aren't crazy, stupid tight or the threads aren't welded together, they will not break. If they do, you can take solace in the fact that you bought a quality tool and get it replaced.

I can break a harbor freight impact socket with a ratchet by hand, when using the right size socket.

yeah, what he said, heat the nuts up, and then hit them with the impact, shouldn't have a problem then...

Heat em up and let em cool down or just zip the bolts off when they're hot?

UPDATE!

The Only way I cracked these bolts was with a small breaker bar and a 12 pt 12 mm socket on a 1/2 inch racket! It worked like a freaking charm!

That's what I do. I hate running the compressor up just for a small job.

Leverage... it's a beautiful thing. Between a few lengths of pipe, my torch and my impact gun, I've never met a bolt i could'nt get off.

The explorer is alive!!!! Back amongst the living!

She runs better than ever!

Took her for a test, and I have no constant jittering/shaking at around 60mph before. I guess I could have prevented this but I thought the shaking was from my 31" nexen MT's. Oh it runs like a dream!

Thanks so much everyone!
