I'm having a issue with the door ajar. The light comes and goes, along with the dome light...and the annoying beep. I have drowned the door with WD40 to no avail. I know its the driver's door. It will go crazy going down the road...left hand turns and holes in the road, sometimes the dome light flashing too. Sometimes as much as 10 times in a 2-3 mile stretch of road. My door chime will sometimes just start beeping (like the door is open with key in ignition). With door closed and sometimes no key! I've looked through many threads about wiring...anyone have a good diagram to aid my troubles?

I've had this baby 13 years now....got it 6 months off the assembly line..I've put 140000 of the 160000 on it. This is by far the most annoying thing its done to me!!

Thanks in advance for the help.

I just went through some troubleshooting on a 2000 with the door ajar. I read the posts on here and started with getting the the car with ignition on and opening one door at a time, and if the door switch for that door is working properly, it will chime once. If it is not working properly, it will not chime. So I am assuming you did that and the driver door does not chime. For me it was the rear hatch, which has two switches, one on each side and a third in the glass that opens. I took the rear panel out and disconnected the wiring one at time until I found the switches that did not work. For me, it was both of the rear hatch switches. I took the switch out and it is a small push button that closes the circuit when the button is out. For me, I could depress the button and make the door ajar light go out (with the switch removed) so I know nothing was wrong with the switch. I just left the two rear hatch ones disconnected since that opens the circuit and you do not get the light. I think to repair it I would have to remove the latches and there is a metal part that is crooked that depresses the button and it needs some fine tuning (bending).

For you, if you are sure it is the driver door, you can remove the door panel and disconnect the wiring from the switch, you can also remove the switch and that will stop the door ajar light. If you want to repair the switch / latch, you will have to take them apart and inspect/test to see why the switch is not closing the circuit.

Nice to here 160K miles and that is your most troublesome part, sounds like you have had good luck with it so far.
