Hi All, im new to the forum and I need a abit of help please :(

I have a 1997 Explorer 4.0L V6 SOHC and I am replacing the front timing chain and cassette as mine has well erm broken.....into lots of pieces ! Silly question but can you do it without the correct timing tools as I do not have them and if not does anyone know where I can buy, borrow or rent them in the UK please, im rather desperate as I have stripped the enigine down to the chain and im now stuck !! Im in the Southeast

Thanks for reading

I would not attempt this job w/out the correct special tool. I've read numerous posts where people have even managed to screw this job up using the special tool. Correct cam timing is critical to not turn your engine into scrap metal.

In the U.S. most auto parts stores have the tool to lend and you can purchase it on eBay. It locks the cams in place so they can't move once properly aligned.

Ah ok thank you, I will have to track down somewhere in the uk to buy or borrow the tools, thank you for your reply ☺️☺️
