1997 Explorer DPFE location

I have a 1997 Explorer, and the engine is different from my 1998 Explorer. Both engines are V-8 5.0 with full tow packages.
I cannot for the life of me find the DPFE on the 1997.
I found the silver box DPFE on the back of the block on the 1998.
I read on the door panel of the 1997 Explorer that it was made in June of 1996, would this make a difference.? The title says its a 1997. I paid 1997 personal property tax prices also.
Any help would be appreciated, I have done everything except climb on top of the engine and look between the engine and firewall looking for this sensor on my 1997 5.0.

If it was made 6/96, then most likely it's a 96, not a 97. Traditionally, new model years begin in August.

VIN will tell you the year, also...go to the decoding page and find out.

Okay, I can except that, as I agree it was made before the new model year.
But the title clearly says 1997.
This is not directed at you, but at DMV to which I can only vent my frustration here, as DMV would not listen even if I did complain.
If it is a 1996, I would have paid less Personal property tax.
I would have gotten a better refund on my tags I turned in also from that crummy Pontiac I sold. (no offense to any GM owners)
I thought it was odd that my EGR system on the '97 was set up somewhat different on the back of the block than the '98.
Some of the '98 EGR system parts are not even on the so-called early release '97.

I guess thats why there is no DPFE.

Yeah-you have an earlier internal EGR system. Instead of a DPFE sensor, there is an EGR position sensor. There is also a linkage, and an egr vacuum regulator.

Mine is a 98 with a late 97 build date.
Now, Dan whitaker in Raytown has a 97 with an early 97 build date, and it does have the p heads with external EGR. like my 98

They usually flip the lines for new models in June/July. So anything made in July and later goes to the next model year. But I can tell you for a fact that if they have enough inventory of the previous year, and there are no major changes needed to the line, they will go ahead and start badging and building the next model year with the correct VIN. I have no doubt you have a legitimate 1997 vehicle.

They will do anything to keep from refunding tag money.
And upping P.P. tax.
Its okay, my XLT is a great truck, and the Lear leather seats are about the most comfortable I have ever sat in.
I was surprised to learn that the leather seats in the Explorer line were designed by Lear Jet Corporation.
I wondered why they were so nice.
Mine are flawless in the XLT.
My Eddie Bauer are good with no tears, but creases.
I just dont care much for the E.B. Explorer, kinda gaudy, but real comfotable.
The XLT is more my style, it looks like a four wheel drive.
That DPFE thing is confusing.
Not sure my '97 has one. Its not on the back of the block or the fender wells or the firewall.
Maybe I am just looking too hard. It may be there.
