We have just recently purchased a '97 explorer and are having problems with finding any sorta lift kits. whether it be suspension or body. we have read that you may use a ranger lift but will have to fab new bumper brackets, we are just wondering why there are none for this year explorer. and maybe you could point us towards a decent body lift.

much ablige

Search a bit -- plenty of threads about lifting the 2nd gen Explorer. From body lifts to suspension lifts, its been beaten to death.

there should be a sticky thread with part numbers and such for lift kits, shackles, etc.

a kit for a 98-01 will work on a 97. search around though, like izwack said, its been beaten to death on here.

This may be of some help, and it starts out cheaper than a full lift.

I had the rear leafs reset for a 2 inch higher ride and 2 extra leafs added (any good suspension place should be able to handle this cheaply). Then I adjusted up the torsion bars to level it out. New shocks and it was a different vehicle to drive. Helps a little with off road clearance but to get serious would require another 2 inches. That's when it starts to become fun. I am still reseaching what is available down under (no one stocks anything for an explorer here - they are taboo). I may have to make my own or adapt from other kits.

Happy trails.
