Yep I've had the rattle for 4k miles now and it still runs and drives great love the engine regardless of the issues

The load on the timing components increases with rpm
And or sudden rpm increases

As rpm increases the chains wrap around the sprockets that's where the guides and tensioners to take up the slack and what makes them a wear item

Ideally you want no slack at all so your chains run smoothly
But some " Flex " is ok

That makes a lot more sense now

I think a burnout with snow chains - they’ll definitely break at some point 😉
Video description: how to break a chain on an explorer. 5mio views for sure.

Grenading the 55r is one thing
The 4r70w?
It was time anyway

Haha, rumor has it that is the case... Does that mean it's no big deal if I grenade the 4r70w during a burnout??!! :D

Reading that again need to say sorry.
Did not mean to sound as if I was indiscriminately spending your$

@SuperGordo Forgive me for going off topic with y'all and hijacking your thread.
@donalds @Lee's Automotive . Lee is so close to me (17 to 20 miles) that he needs to buy my old '97 4.0 SOHC and make it his tire roaster. Donalds know that I fixed it to where the chains don't rattle anymore. Several months ago I drove it just knowing that I hurt the engine. Nope! It held up.
Lee, the price could get right if I don't do the super duper interior clean up, an extra $300 or if I were to do the headliner, another $300- unless headliner prices have gone up since I last did one. That would be $600- less off of retail. $1650- minus headliner and clean up $600=$1050-. I forgot that it needs a pro front end alignment. $80- at Hazel green Goodyear. Jeff the co-Manager is trustworthy and good to work with.
$1150- if I take it up there to get the alignment. I need the cash to fix Mo the mountaineer.

Let me know if you need any odd 4R70W parts besides the easy stock stuff. I have collected enough 4R's and Sonnax parts to build about one more than I think I'll need. I need one less for sure now that I believe a 6R80 is a simple bolt on to the SBF.

Just cut off the lowest bolt hole ear near the starter of any SBF, and it will bolt on with minor bolt size changes, threads of those etc. I think I can do that and fab the 4WD extension to use my TC, and swap the R&P gears, shafts, and accept the cost of the controller. That won't be a ton beyond the cost of a full tilt 4R build. I have two of the wide ratio Sonnax Direct Drum kits, which is the big item($600), and two of the basic Sonnax Forward drums(those were about $170 and may or may not have a design defect(I haven't dug them out to check yet)).

Installed the rear seat yesterday. Recovered rhe passenger seat. Started recovering the drivers seat but i have to reweld the cross support on the seat back. My mig welder is at my buddies place, so i need to do that this week.

What are the part numbers of the Sonnax drums?

If i had the money i would buy it in a heartbeat i honestly need a engine or a timing kit do you know where to find one locally?

What are the part numbers of the Sonnax drums?

I have two of the 76654-01K drums that I liked for a good solid 4R build, the higher end version(76655-01K) I only have one that will go in my best 4R for my Mark VII. I like these all for upgrading a 4R, but there was a you tube video of someone reviewing many Sonnax parts. This one he said the one he had didn't have full depth grooves for the clutches, all the way down to the piston/pressure plate. He said it may not hold the bottom plate etc. I had mine in boxes still, I haven't looked for them, and it will require a full drum to swap the parts over to check that clearance properly.

I see Summit has it now for $146.30, that's a good price if they are made right;

This is the slick Direct Drum Kit I have also as an extra, this was going to be for my 98 Explorer. Now I'm aiming to just put a mild 4R in until I find time to get to the 6R80 etc.

I'll make a good deal for these.

Need to weld this seat back support back onto the frame. I hit it with the wire wheel and did a little grinding. Ill weld it up soon.

Nothing to worry about, it made me laugh! I'm very easy going. I'm just having fun! And if I did break it. I could fix it in 2 days. I love the 4r70w! If I hadn't already spent a small fortune on this EX I'd do it anyway....
