On my 1999 4.0 OHV, I've got an oil leak on the drivers side coming down from the middle (front to back) of the engine. I am suspicious that it is the dipstick tube oring that seals to the engine block since I've taken the tube out three times for valve cover work, but on reinsert never replaced the oring (mainly because I have no idea on the correct size/type/part number).

It seems my luck has run out though. Does anyone know the Ford part number for this oring? Or the dimensions to replace with a generic one?

Generic o-ring. Try Viton o-rings, as they are resistant to petroleum. For size, you can find assortments at Harbor Freight, Home Depot, auto parts stores. Or go to Ace Hardware with the dipstick and find one that fits.

Good luck!

Harbor freight sells metric and standard o ring kits… I cannot tell you how many times they have saved my ass

You can use some permatex to seal that dipstick as well as the little o ring

The oil pressure sensor is on that side of the engine as well, towards the front… this can be an oil leak on that side of block as well
