I've only just got my 1999 Explorer (UK) , when I switch it to 4wd and turn the wheel a lot ,when parking for example , I get a clonking coming from the wheels (It feels like they are scrubbing around ). Is this just part of the 4wd set up or is something wrong here ?(it's fine when in auto mode though )

Thanks in advance (not a lot of info on Explorers in the UK )

Dave

NEVER use 4x4 on the pavement. You should only use it in slippery conditions such as snow, mud, sand, etc. Using it on the pavement is causing your drivetrain to bind and puts a lot of stress on the driveline components. 4wd auto is fine to use on dry pavement.

Thanks Scott , I guess I just wanted to see if 4wd made any difference , looks like I'll keep it switched to auto until we get a bit of snow over here then :)
