1999 Explorer trans swap question

Im not sure what trans is in the 99 now other than its an auto. I can get a good 4R44E for a decent price, but im not sure if itll swap over. I have the 4.0 SOHC motor, and the 4R is outta a 96 Explorer with the 4.0 OHV motor. Will the trans swap over from the 96 to 99 and actually work right? Or is the trans completely different between the two? And if it would swap over, anything else i should know about the trans? Thanks for the help.

These transmissions are shifted electronically. This requires that the CORRECT computer be used for a particular transmission. Swaps between years CAN be done, but one must take the electronic controls into consideration, for it to work. imp

Yeah i figured everything is electronicly controlled, i was just tryin to figure out if itll just bolt in and be done or if its a different trans than what is in the 99 and ill have to start modifying and messing with crossmembers and driveshafts and what not to get it to work right
