1999 explorer whine

purchased a 1999 exp xlt. Fires up fine..no significant noise...put it in drive and it whines...drive it a few miles and the sound disappears. when I bought it the xmsn was a qt overfull. NO leaks on ground...shifts fine

It's almost a wait for it thing,,

my 99 xls makes a weird trans noise too, but it's been doing it for over 100,000 kilometers,
you may have to try too pin down the whine a bit better, i do know that under hood sounds can seems like they come from one area , but are from somewhere else,,
