Unplug it..... but why? There should be no need to do so, not to mention the possible consequences should you be involved in an accident and it's found out by your insurance co. that the SRS had been disabled.....

it is illegal in Maryland

yeah seriously.. Unless you have a child in the front seat, I would say don't disconnect it. Or what you can do is take it to the dealer and have them install a on/off switch that is controlled by your ignition key.

Shouldn't have the child in the front seat of an Explorer. The child should be in the rear seat. It's the safest place in a crash, and is where the seats are designed to protect the children. The front seats (and passenger side airbag) are not designed to do so.

Not to be harsh, but if you're trying to put a child or infant in the front passenger seat of an Explorer, you're driving the wrong vehicle.

Oh I know.. I was a VFD member for many years before I quit. The only circumstance I could see a child in a front seat would be in a 2 seater van or pickup. I know those vehicles do have the capabilities to turn off the airbag. I believe not having the passenger air bag connected with throw a airbag code.

Indeed.... I had that part in there, but deleted it by mistake....

Yeah, standard and supercab pickups (Fords anyways) will have the passenger airbag deactivation switch. Crew-cab trucks will not as, again, the safest place for a child is in the back seat, and that's where they want you to put 'em.
