My 5r55e whines in first gear. As soon as it shifts to second it stops and all is fine. New fluid did not help. It's really not a problem just annoying.

Anybody else have this? 2001 xlt sport 4dr. 4x4 only 50k.

Same problem

Not on an explorer, but on my 2001 Ranger XL. Auto-Trans 2.5L engine. The whine is only in 1st gear just like yours. I've noticed that it will sometimes shift pretty hard between 1st & 2nd but its rare.

If you get any info on this, please share with me I'm interested in knowing whats up.

There is a tsb so its a problem i dont know what the fix is if there is one.but im going to say it has something tho do with the planetary?

What now

So TSB's are known issues, are these generally repaired for free or is it just a confirmation of a widespread problem and its up to the owner to pony up the cash to get it fixed?

Does anyone have any knowledge of the contents within this TSB?

Its a known problem with the manufacturer but no recall has been done,But they have more than llikely issuued a fix for the ford techs? if i was you i would call the service dept and give them the tsb# and ask them what they are doing about it warranty work???etc
