hello, i bought a 1991 explorer and was cleaning the MAF, changing the oil..ect

when i noticed the pcv valve has two spots for hoses--but only one hose connected....when i start her, the valve sucks air through the port with no hose. does anybody have any ideas?

also--does anyone know where the two vaccum lines that are attached to the airbox (air intake) are supposed to go?

need help with vaccum lines

I bought a 1991 ford explorer - some backyard mechanic was messing with it ------does anyone know where the two vaccum lines that are attached to the airbox (air intake) are supposed to go? there is also a line missing from the pcv valve....it sucks air when the vehicle is running.

...starting extra post will not make the mods happy..;)
...give me a few minutes and i will help...

sorry about extra post - figured might get response in another forum.

thanks in advance for any help

...the pcv on mine only has one inlet w/ a double 90 on it and it goes to the intake directy over the pcv ...the 2 hoses from your stock air box, 1 goes over by the pcv and plugs into the intake at the octopuss, the other goes to the stock intake intake air controller right below the passenger headlight...:D

the other goes to the stock intake intake air controller right below the passenger headlight...

...oops, i called it wrong , it is not the iac, but i want to say it's the thermal air, something or other, where the air comes in behind the headlight...sorry, i'm eating and tired, lol...:D

...yes, you are correct...on mine, the one closest to the fender goes there while the other hose goes over, to the intake, under the coil pack, behind the motor, to the octopuss...:D

does the "octopuss" normally have an unused outlet with a cap on it?

mine does

there is a vacuum diagram sticker on the top of the radiator support or the underside of your hood.it shows where all the lines go:)

...some do, usually the first thing disconnected is the cruise control servo...;)
...btw, where are you located...you need to add that to your signature...

thanks alot man.
no problem.i diden't see the newfoundland location i hope yours has a sticker.
hey tbar,whats this 91 project x in your sig?ranger?

what abou the pcv valve? there are 2 ports on it---i also have a 93 explorer--i checked that and the pcv has only one line going in from top.

when i plug the open port on the pcv-she idles nice but when i let off the idle is faster.

...that doesn't show up on the tag??? lol...is it going to right above the pcv??? it should be...what i am thinking is they used a different pcv than what is suppose to go in there...cap it off as it is a vacuum leak and get a new pcv ....they might have also lost the pcv hose so that might not be the correct one....:D

those are vacuum lines did you look at the sticker yet?you need to find what hose goes on the pcv,you shouldn't drive it with like that.

its not driving - its at my buddys garage ---there already is a short 1/4 2 inch hose going from the manifold to the pcv--but right above that theres a nipple for a smaller hose---we cant find any trace of the line that goes there
