hey guys. these are probably not very complex questions but i am pretty new to the sport. i would really appreciate any and all feedback

1. is there a way to put "D-ring" tow hooks, sort of like the ones on some ch*vys on the front of a 2000 which would stick out that hole in the bumper?

2. which metric size is similar to 31x11.5x16 and would it fit on a 8" wheel?

once again, thanks

Hey EB2K,
I am not sure about the tow hooks but I can help you out with the tire sizes.

This is the equation for the conversion.

ex. 265(1)x75(2) R16(3)
the numbers in parenthesis are the ones I am representing in the equation.

(1) divided by 25.4 = width of the tire in inches

ex 265 / 25.4 = 10.5

width of tire x .(2) = sidewall height

ex 10.5 x .75 = 7.82

{side wall height x 2} + wheel diameter = overall tire diameter in inches

ex {7.82 x 2} + 16 = 31.6 inches

so a 265/75R16 is actually a 31.6x10.5 16

Hope this helps

A "D-ring" tow hook. Never heard of those. There are two things you're thinking of here.

First the is a tow hook. The GM uses a style that does stick out a bit. I asume this is what you're talking about.
Go down to the GM dealer and order a set. They should run you about $25 or so. You also will need to get some longer bolts and a small block of steel to drop the hooks down a bit. Then find a spot where they'll work(you may need to remove the bumper), drill the holes and your off. Do a search on this. There have been several people how have done this.

As the the "D-ring". I think you meant a shackle. These can also be mounted to the explorer. Just go down to you're local farming store and have them order a set that is large enough to fit the frame. You may have to make the hole larger but it shouldn't be a problem. Then undo the "D-Ring" and put it onto the frame and you're off.
