Is it me? Why have I surfed so many websites, they have 20 inch rims falling out their @#%hole, but as soon as you select 02 explorer, you MIGHT be looking at 2 or 3, or maybe nothing at all. I'm trying to avoid spacers, can anyone point me in the right direction? Is there a mystery sight out there for only the pro web surfers?!?!?!

Just look at wheel specs and determine what will fit instead of looking at them by application.

You'll want 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern, probably with 4-4.5 backspacing (unsure on proper bs with 20s), and able to handle the load of an Explorer. The last is probably the key, as many large rims are just designed for light compact cars.

Thanks Alec. I'll give it a try. Or maybe I'll go straight to the factory and smack the engineers!

the reason that there are few 20s out there is cause, 5X4.5 is a small bolt pattern, and think about it, if you have a small bolt pattern, you got all that rim out there with no support, thats why there are so many 6 lugs out there, cause the strength is alot higher..

So basically I should go through the headache of adapters if I want anything good.

just say No to adapters, there is alot of good wheels out there, you just got to find them, you might have to check into the 5X114.3 size, you guys need to help me here, but I think that should work, thats the size that Black Magic is running, I think?

There are a lot of rims with a 5x4.5 bolt pattern. If you insist on looking up rims for an application, choose a Ranger instead of an Explorer.

BTW, I really don't think strength is an issue with 5 lug rims.

i only have a 97 explorer and i didn't look for them online, i went thru a rim dealer and bought 20's for it and i had alot of options. you just might wanna go talk to a dealer and get ur options and then search for those online to get the better price

its not the 5 lug part, its the 4.5 inch spacing, cause even a s10, has a 5X5.5 wheel...I dont know why the lug pattern on explorers are so small..

Jeeps, 4Runners, and many other vehicles have 5 on 4.5. Also, the Explorer hub is fairly large and that adds some strength to the system.

I'm sure there is a relationship between lug pattern and wheel strength, but I don't think it makes any difference on reasonably sized passenger vehicles.

Thanks for the Ranger suggestion. I will certainly give it a shot. As for the dealer thing, I hate talking to those guys. They always try and push some ridduculous rim on you that will only cost all together a discounted 4 g's. Oh....Is that all?!?!?!

I'm having problems getting a set of 20's for my 97. noone will give me a quote because they say they don't have a confirmed fitment for my vehicle. I even used the ranger suggestion. I want to put Mondera Cristals on it. Does it need to be lifted? or are they too wide?
