I have a 2000 Ford Explorer 4.0 SOHC with 154,000 miles. The problem I am having is the car will drop 500-1000 RPMS while driving. I can be cruising at city speeds of 35 mph and the car will suddenly drop rpms and buck and jerk then rpms go back to normal and drop again. Then it may be fine for five minutes and will do it all over again. Can also happen at highway speeds as well. Car seems to idle fine and runs smooth other wise until this happens. The only code the car has given is a code for multiple misfires.
I have changed the upper and lower intake gaskets. I have checked the MAF and TPS with a multimeter and both seem to be working properly.
Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated I have been fighting this problem for months now
