2000 explorer xlt - How do I turn off interior lights using overhead buttons

I just bought a 2000 explorer xlt and I'm having trouble turning interior lights off using overhead buttons...help!!!

Check the slider switch on the left side of the panel, next to the headlight switch. If that’s in the ON position, the interior lights will never turn off

The main thumb wheel switch turns the interior lights OFF, or ON, fully down, or fully up all the way.

The door latches also turn them on, when a door or hatch is opened, or any latch has malfunctioned. Find the door ajar light on the dash(with the key on), and be sure that it's not lit when all the doors are shut. That's a good test of all of the latches. A bad latch will keep the lights on all the time.
