2000 Explorer

I have a 2000 Explorer which rust is starting to appear on the rocker panel area of both sides of the rear seat. Is this common on this generation (2000 X)? When you open up the rear doors, it's starting to rust on the door and on the rocker panel. What would be the best way to address the rust. I am planning on sanding, priming, and then spraying the area with paint.

Thanks!

No, that is not real common. I mean metal rusts. Fact of life. The location you are experiancing is a bit out of the ordinary.

The BEST way to adress it is to remove it completely. If you are lucky it will be as little as grinding the rust away. Sadly though many times it involves cutting out metal.

Yup - I agree with monmix. Rust spreads, even if just a little bit is there
