Ok after hours of searching i have yet to find the exact answers im looking for. First off in regards to the engine wiring harness, if i was to get a 5.0 engine harness from say a 1997 will it go right back together with the v6 harness or what pins will have to be moved, is there a schematic to print out. Also what years if possible will be a plug and play only if possible, or at least have minimal pin swaps. Next, i understand that on some swaps you have to swap out the P.A.T.S. but is it just the different year into another or is it no matter what. Then I have the 4X4. If I was to get the engine to transmission will it push the transfer case back or is it the same length. Thats all i can think of at the moment but i still have a couple i cant think of. If there are any forms that i have not found with this information please post the links. Any and all input is welcome and appreciated.:salute:

Just get you a whole donor v8 explprer with the driveline and swap it all out. If you get a 2001 donor the wiring will be ALMOST plug and play with your truck

Kris Guilbeaux and Russell Darnell are good ones to respond to this. They helped do this in the Rock Trac, which is a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac, and we took the 5.0L from a 2000 Ford Explorer Limited. Pats comes into play, and repining of the harnesses. They were able to do that for me.

My issue is I cant find a donor vehicle. I have two 2wd v8s(1 mercury, 1 ford, both 1997s i believe) at a local pullapart but they wont let me buy the whole vehicle off the yard and the engines are in pretty rough shape and the trannys are a complete unknown. I might be ordering a used engine and tranny for 1200 tomorrow. It is supposed to have everything id need. Computer, alternator, water pump, intake, oil pan etc. Everything for the conversion. So once I get the engine what else would i need to get from those donors at pullapart? as for anything else i can try to order it from somewhere i just need to know what to order.

After i get the engine and tranny in and running. My next step would be the 4406 swap, Im in the process of trying to see if I need to do the SAS to make that work or if my torsion bar set up would be compatible. Ill cross that bridge when i get there though.

dont know how hard you searched. in my thread i listed all the parts you would need. so now i just copy and paste the list

the shopping list is
trans
motor
transfer case
drive shafts
rad/condenser ***update, 4L SOHC rad/condenser will work***
a/c lines
power steering lines, and cooler
motor harness, and wiring from alt to battery ***update, 4L underhood body harness will mate to 5L motor harness, however, oil gauge wire, and a/c wires need to be modified to work***
throttle cable
trans shifter cable (not sure if i will need it, but hey) ***update, 5r55e cable will work***
air filter box ***update 4L SOHC box, and sensor will work***
exhaust
fuel pump (not sure if needed but.....) ***update, 4L SOHC pump will work***
g.e.m.
p.a.t.s.
key ring around ignition cylinder, and ignition cylinder
locks including hatch lock
computer
cruise motor with cable
evap lines

you can get around the pats if you get a sct tuner. then you can get the person who programs it for you to delete the pats out of it. who ever you get the computer from, ask them if you can get the pats box, ring around the ignition cylinder and a key all from the same truck. but you will want them as well as the harness to be the same year as your truck, if not no older then 99 because of the fuel system. also if you have searched, then you know about the drive shafts for the 4406. you may want to plan at least 2 weeks if you do this on your own laying on your back in the driveway depending how inclined you are.
