2001 Explorer Sport 4.0L SOHC. Knocking sound.

Just purchased this 01' Sport. It was knocking when I bought it. It continues to knock or clicking sound. weather it is cold or warmed up. I am just trying to figure out what might be causing this sound. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

cat heat shields?

You might check the heat shields on the catalytic converters. Sometimes the welds break and the shields rattle.

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the stock 95-01 section. Check the oil pressure.

If it sounds like spark knock (pinging) it could be the dreaded primary timing chain rattle. My 01 Sport did the same thing. I bought the Ford TSB kit to fix it but decided to trade it in for a 4 door Explorer when we had our first kid. I still have the kit laying around if you need it.
