Hey all
I just got a 2001 sport about a month ago and it really has impressed me. I took it up to Estes Park (Colorado) and it had no problems on the trails. Then again they weren't extreme trails or anything but it held its own.
I have some money saved up and a birthday coming up....so we all know what Im gonna be askin for!

First, Im thinkin a safari bar and tint for sure.
I want to lift it though and have heard many different reactions to TT and shackles ( I can't afford the superlift on it even though it looks kick butt)....And why does Ford keep switching from leafs to coils to leafs?!!!! Anyway I don't want a stiif or bumpy ride but want biggger tires,265/75 would be nice.
Also Im thinkin kkm but I will be moving back home to California and don;t want to have to change the intake back and forth to get the smog check..what is the truth in intake/1/ kkm or k/n .
you guys rule and hopefully i will get some helpful response from my first post ever!
thanks, Trail

Welcome to one of the best Explorer sites on the net!

Firstly, I'm gonna delete one of your posts cause you accidentally double posted. No biggie ;)

265-75 is about equal to 31, no? Then a torsion twist (TT) and a set of shackles will do well. You might even be able to fit them without a lift.

As for intakes, KNs are 50 state legal while KKM isn't. What many members have done, and what I recommend is: get the KKM kit, www.kustomz.com , and also get a KN sticker from the store or from www.knfilters.com . Not many people can tell the difference by sight, and it should fool the smog inspectors ;) I like KN stuff, but it's much more money than the KKM.

Thanks Alec-
So, if money was not an issue what has better performance in SOHC '01 kkm or kn?
Does anyone know for sure if 265/75 will fit stock with no rubbing? (pics?) how much of a lift will it give it compared to 255/70? The new explorers are so low because of the running boards. but they look cool I think.

bigger tires

The 265/75's will about an inch and a half bigger than the 255/70's. I'm not sure whether or not they will fit stock. I have a 2001 sport myself, and I'm doin' the bigger shackles and TT just to make sure I can fit the bigger tires.

Right on, Tell me how it comes out..
and all the specs on the ride and what tires
