2001 Sport Trac - lift questions

I'm looking to lift my truck, but I dont know much about what I will need so please bear with me.

For starters, my truck is stock. It snows alot around here, and during the summer it rains alot, and i'm looking for some fun and giving the beast a different look.

I need some help with picking out some tires & rims, body lifts, etc.

Its not like I have thousands to spend upfront, so this will be a project as I will be in the airforce come the new year.

What should I start of with, tires / rims or lift kit?

I am assuming you have a 4wd. If this is a daily driver as well, then I'd suggest 265/75/16 A/Ts for tires. A 1.5"-2" torsion bar lift in the front. That will get you going for awhile. Then you can look at body lifts if you need to go higher.

Climb underneath the truck just behind the front wheels. Locate the tbars and you will find a bolt size 13mm sticking out. Measure the height from the ground to the fender, then crank the bolt clockwise to raise it. I went all the way in then backed off 3 full turns on each side.

It is generally not recommened to go more then 1.75" if you have a 4x4.

I personally don't recommend Torsion Twist anymore. You will just fatigue the bars and lose the lift over time. Get a 3" body lift for tire clearance and pick the right wheels.

body lifts arrent as expensive as I thought and looks great on these trucks, I'm going to order a set of rims, then tires, then do the lift. Thanks for all the suggestions

Not as expensive as a suspension lift- the 3" lift from PerformanceLifts.com runs about 270.00 Just don't forget the gap guards(personal preference); without them I think it makes it look incomplete

If you still want to go for the TT/Shackle lift here's another discussion you may want to thumb through; it's about upgrading the torsion bars to prevent the eventual sag John was talking about. Might take some research to find a dealer- I didn't read through all of it.

it does but they're for the stock height, if you lift there'll be a gap

gotcha gotcha, i'll probably get that kit to start off with and then purchase a set of wheels. speaking of which, would you happen to know what size wheel in terms of offset, size, etc that i would need? I'll probably go with a 16" but i'm not sure what dimensions ill need to go with. I was looking at some of procomp's wheels and i have to say i like this one most Pro Comp Alloys Series 8089 Gloss Black

Just did my TT/War153 lift on my sport trac today. This isn't my first. I previously had a 97 and a 98 4 door with the saem lift. The only thing is, on my sport trac I only got about 1" up front. Now I have a bit of rake. The rear is about 1 5/8" higher than the front. Has anyone else ever had this happen?
