Does anyone know if the 2001 gibson bolt-on exhaust system will fit on a 2002 model? I am unsure and was wondering if anyone has tried or put this on their 2002 or 2003 sport model. If not, has anyone put a gibson muffler on their 2002 sport and what size?

I was looking to get a differerent sound out of my explorer and was even considering going with flowmaster 70 series but it seems like it may be too big to install. I am trying to keep the noise level down but definitely want to go louder than stock. I am not trying to draw attention when I drive down the street but definitely want someone to know that it is not stock. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

Mstr I got dual chamber 2 flowmasters on my 01 sport and I love the way it sounds. It sounds very loud and deep. I dunno what series I have on mine but I paid 490 bucks for them. It sounds very nice once i take off and accerlate on my sport it sounds like a meaner explorer with my flowmasters.

Gibson muffler installed

Well, I just put on a gibson superflow 14" muffler on my 2002 Explorer Sport and so far I am quite impressed with the sound quality. I left all the piping stock and put on a 3.5" magnaflow tip that was cut down from 18" long to about 16-17" long. I know that this tip is big but I may change that later.

I was surprised to see that the OEM piping had different sizes. Everything was 2.25" except for the piping after the resonator. The piping after the resonator reduced down to 2" piping exiting out the rear. The sound is definitely deeper than stock but may be a little louder than what I expected, possibly because of the large tip diameter. The sound is deep and consistent through acceleration but does have an increase in pitch the more gas you give it. When I rev the engine when not in gear, it sounds very deep with a low rumbling and slight popping sound. Does anyone think that if I went with 2.5" piping from the resonator to the tip that the sound would get any deeper? Or do you think that this may be waste of time?

mstr did u get single or dual exhaust and do u got any sound clips of it.

I just put on a single in (offset) and single out (center) muffler with a single tip running out the back. The muffler is a gibson part #13215 and I got it for $70 from summitracing.com. I was thinking about running duals but decided against it. Maybe when my pipes rust out I will try to run duals but right now stock piping system is solid with no rust. I don't know how I can get sound clips or videos of it because I don't have a video camera but I will try to get some photos with my digital. I have also noticed that the sound seems to be getting better the more I drive it.

flowmaster 70 series

I know for a fact that its better that the piping is around 2 1/4 in. because once you hit 2 1/2 you start losing power. I had to have mine custom made.

2.5'' pipe from the end of the Y-pipe, and remove the resonators. then install the muffler of your choice. lastly a tune will give you optimum performance from the exhaust...
