Im about to pick up a 2002 explorer from a buddy and have a few questions

1.) has anyone heard the JL Audio Stealthbox in the explorer? If so how does it sound?

2.) What is the speaker size for the front speakers and what is the location (doors or dash?)

This is the setup up im wanting to run but it all depends on if the JL stealthbox sounds good if anyone has heard one????

Alpine CDA 117
Hertz MLK165 (fronts)
JL Audio Tw5 Flat Sub (in a custom made box just like the JL Stealbox)
JL Audio HD900/5 ( ill be bridging the 4channel part of the amp to run just the front speakers with more power and im leaving the rears ran off the deck power)

Like I said i know absolutely nothing about the Explorer or how it carries sound and so forth so any info you guys can give me would be appreciated!

1) I haven't personally heard the stealthbox in an explorer. However, it's been my experience that the stealthboxes just don't do anything for me...no matter what vehicle they are in. Now, I don't know what your listening tastes are, but it took (4) 10" Memphis shallow mount subs to reach the minimum output I want out of my music.

2) Stock explorer speakers are 5x7 in the doors.

I dont want so much bass it rattels my car to **** but enough to bump nice and tight! the only JL Stealth box i heard was a single 10" in a 2007 Vette ran off a Alpine PDX 1.600 and it hit 141db he had the factory deck and factory speakers. it sounded amazing! Now i know that Vettes carry sound much different then a Explorer so thats why i need to know if anyone has a Stealth box actually made for the explorer?

Try the one from SubThump. It installs easier, is a small fraction of the price, and you pick your own sub.

Well the sub im thinking about using is a 13.5" Flat sub and i was going to have a custom box made so i could have a amprack built right in the box and house my 1 amp in there as well

Hope you know this but be prepared to spend $500 or more just for the sub. I love JL, have JL speakers and subs in my truck, but not worth it to me.

Yeah you can get the sub cheap on ebay but the box would be the killer , but looking further into it i actually wouldnt gain much my going with the flat sub over the regular jl stealthbox so im just going to go with that i just wish someone on here had one to let me know how it is! I believe the stealbox online runs about $550 with the sub already in it and the flat sub with a custome box with amp rack would prolly run me a grand so the stealth box it is! if i dont like it ill have to switch to a bigger sub in a regular box i guess

JL's stealthbox sits on the driver's side, and if you have rear a/c, it won't fit.

I'm just thinking of replacing the factory sub with a JL 8" sub, using the factory sub box, and getting an aftermarket amp to run it.

Another thing to consider, I'm big on having a warranty and JL does not warranty anything bought online except Crutchfield.com. They are the only online JL dealer.

Im not even sure if mine has the rear ac i havent even gotten it yet ! i know it has the 3rd row seating tho! Im buying it from a buddy of mine who ive know since 5th grade he has a car dealership it only has 18k miles on it and im getting it for 5k. i havent even looked at the inside yet so im not sure what all it has i do know the outside of it is mint tho! So if i cant do the JL box then i guess ill have to come up with another option maybe the flat sub in the small box made by JL not sure if the sub would have enough room to breath tho shoved behing the 3rd row seat?
