2002 Limited door and liftgate vertical trim problem
Wondering if anyone has any specific suggestions, or if maybe the parts are easily replaceable:
The problem is the door trim -- the vertical trim pieces that are black no matter what color the paint is. Let's say you're looking at the left side of the vehicle -- there is a vertical trim piece at the right edge of the front door window, and another one at the left edge of the back door window. These two vertical trim pieces are side-by-side, when the doors are closed.
As I said, on all the 2002s I have seen, these parts are black even if your paint is white or whatever. Well, the finish on them has flaked off or peeled off or whatever.
Can these trim pieces be easily replaced? I know they wouldn't be cheap, but it might be easier than painting if they can be replaced.
The liftgate window has two similar vertical trim pieces -- one at each side of the window. These are quarter-round in this case, but otherwise appear to be the same type of material and with exactly the same finish problem.
Today I noticed about a zillion Explorers on the road, and saw 2 or 3 with the same exact problem with the finish of these parts, so it is apparently a manufacturing defect. The parts I see all appear to be black. And I found the parts on a parts site, and they are not too expensive -- about $50 each.
So, my real question becomes: Does anybody know how to replace these trim parts the right way?
Thanks!
Charles
