Can some of you please respond if you have a 2002 V8 4.6L with 3.73 rear end with what type of mileage you get on highway / city.. Also what you get when towing..

Thank you

I don’t do any city only driving, just combined or highway. The worst I have gotten was when I first got it, 14-14.5 mpg no matter how I drove it. Now it has 7500 mi. on and last weekend I took it on a 400 mi. trip up to NY. About 50/50 interstate/2 lane, over the mountains with the Thule (enclosed ski carrier) on top and got over 19 mpg. I haven’t done any towing.

1 month till I get my 2002, (mom gave my truck to my lil sis sucks, not only did she get a nice truck but the freakin system I had in it) Our dealership let us use an AWD 2002 Mountaineer V8 and 3.73 gears for a week and it wasn't bad on gas at all (for an suv). I drove it mostly (pretty hard also cause that new V8 just flies) and the 1st time I filled up I got 15.9 mpg all city and when we filled up before returning it to the dealership we got 16.2 mpg again all city. Alot of those new V8 Explorers and Mountaineers seem to be getting better mileage than they are rated at. If you look at Edmunds the test they have for the explorer is averaging around 14 or 15mpg while the mountaineer they had (awd w/ V8) is as they said "16mpg all hard detroit city driving". Pretty weird considering the weight gain over the old explorer, also our neighbor has a new Explorer V8 and tow package and he said he gets about 15.5 mpg in the city.

mileage

My 2002 Explorer (Eddie Bauer) has the 3.73 and the
V-8 and I get 17mpg in town and 21mpg on the
highway. We really love the new Explorer.
