My 2002 explorer had to be jump started and now my dash lights are not working? I have checked the fuses, does anyone have any other suggestions?

I installed a new aftermarket radio and used a wiring kit from walmart, however, the kit did not have an adapter for the 3/4" x 3/4" plug which has a yellow wire and a grey and black wire. Does this plug need to be hooked up? I had to jump start my truck and now my instrument cluster lights do not work. I have checked all of the fuses to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Are you sure you didn't just turn them off by rolling the switch to the left of your steering wheel all the way down? You might want to try disconnecting the harness from the radio and turning your car on to see if they start to work.

I tried it and that didn't work either. I hooked the factory radio back up and that didn't solve the issue either. I have adjusted the dimmer switch too!! It's crazy, however I have been told that strange things happen when you jump start this truck!

Well, as many times as I've had to jumpstart mine I haven't run into any strange things yet. I would go and buy a new battery. Or you can try unhooking your battery for a little while. Then hook the battery back up and see what happens.

I will send you some info for troubleshooting the cluster lights when I get home tonight.

I tried unhooking the battery for a while and that didn't work either. Any help would be greatly apprreciated!

Check you PM. ;)

Thanks Rondo I appreciate all of your help. I have ordered a new headlight switch and as soon as it comes in I am going to install it. I will post as soon as I get it installed and tell you if this was the problem. And also, thank you for your service to our great country!!!

You are very welcome!! :salute:

Thanks for the update.

I will forward the testing procedure for the headlight switch so you can check your old one.

Check your PM for the Headlight Switch testing procedures.

Okay I ordered a new headlight switch after removing the old one, it smelled like it was burnt up. I just received my new switch, installed it and damn, the dash lights are still not working. So that was a waste of 100 bucks. Go figure! I have owned and driven Fords since I was old enough to drive. This truck here is really getting on my nerves, I have replaced the transfercase, rearend 3 times, the transmission has been rebuilt and now this, less than 200,000 miles (all highway miles) and I'm about feed up! The Ford dealer will rob you and so far no one really has any ideas to what this strange problem is. Crazy! The blend door just quit working and both rear windows operators broke last week.

Did you check all the related fuses in the diagrams I sent?

What did you come up with when doing the troubleshooting steps I sent?

I haven't found the problem yet, but I have been using the diagrams you sent me.
