I have a 2003 Ford explorer XLT, v6 Gas...I am trying to do a timing chain, I have the Timing chain Kit already. The problem is getting the driver shaft (i think that is the name of it) off. I have rented over 3 pulleys, they all do not grip and slip off. What type/kind of pulley (name, website to buy it, etc) do I need to finish the job? What are the steps?

I have a 2003 Ford Explorer v6- 4.0L vin E245ci-MFI GAS SOHC, It has like 3-4 chains I am not looking for instructions on how to do a timing chain, I am looking to find out what kind of pulley do I need? I have almost everything off but the driver shaft.....???? What kind of pulley do I need to rent?

Pulley

In order to remove the crank shaft (figured out the name) you need to use a pulley to remove it......as I was told. Some pulleys are 2-3 jaw pulleys. The ones I used just doesn't work.

you mean harmonic ballancer?

harmonic balancer

Yes!!! Is that also called the crank shaft?

Im not tying to be an ahole or anything but if you dont even know the name of what your replacing you probably shouldnt be attempting it.

you dont use a jaw puller on this pully, I bought a harmonic ballancer puller from autozone, the secrete is that when you loosen the center bolt leave it threaded in a few spins then thread in the two long bolts into the harmonic ballancer from the puller kit, also you will need to cut a few inches off the long bolt that presses out the pully because it will hit the radiator if you dont cut

Thanks I will be sure to delay that!
