As the title states, this is what I drive...
Well, until it died on me driving home on Tuesday.

I'm sure I'm beating a dead horse and for that I apologize.

Now, please bear with me while I try to explain everything.

My husband ran some compression tests and he is leaning toward the timing chain since he says it's a known problem. He said he pulled the spark plugs and well...they should have been changed, yesterday.

Looking around here, I've noticed similar noise complaints that I have had since 2010 (I bought the truck in 2009) which leads me toward the fact it should have been fixed 2 years ago.

My first question is, what is the name of the tool used to change the timing chain?

Also, I know that there is a chain in the back on the drivers side and in order to service this, the engine will need to be pulled. Between my husband and my dad, we will be able to do this, but realistically, how hard is this to do?

What are your suggestions/opinions? Is it worth fixing? Should putting a rebuilt motor in be a better option? Could it be something else?

My husband just wants me to buy a newer vehicle...
But, I love this Explorer way to much.

Thanks for the help
