2003 temp sensor replacement

New to this site. Have a 2003 explorer, 4.0. Just replaced the thermostat housing, took out the old sensor. After installing the housing and then taking it out to try and put the sensor in, I have had no luck. It wont sink down far enough for the locking pin to engage around it. Anyone have any ideas? Bought the housing at advance auto, its a dorman product. Tried using a different O ring but didnt help, it let the coolant leak around the sensor.

Advance auto parts sold me the wrong sensor, problem solved
