Hey guys,

the O/D light on my dash just began flashing today... and I noticed my truck shifting more roughly than usual. I have read some horror stories online about immediately having to completely rebuild the transmission after this issue, but I am looking for some other opinions.

I have read about potentially rebuilding the valve body and replacing the EPC solenoid as a solution, however I am unsure as to whether people have had success doing this.

I am simply looking for direction/suggestions and what others have done in this situation.

Tranny fluid changed at 100000 km's

Thanks!

An update...

basically my O/D light begins flashing when my RPM's get too high heading into second gear (over 3000). I know this issue is fairly common, anyone have any suggestions?

Flashing OD means "limp mode" which is often a sign of bigger problems. Some people say just disconnect the battery and hope the code goes away, but you're definitely taking the right route by trying to find out what the underlying problem is.

Good luck troubleshooting.

p.s. is your first name "Ilya"? :D

The codes were as follows:

1. Problem shifting to 2nd gear
2. Problem shifting to 5th gear
3. Shift Solenoid B

Of course, Mister Transmission would only offer a full tranny rebuild at over $3000.00... no other option was given to me.

I have taken it elsewhere and see what they say for tomorrow.

Please help!

The solenoid block on these transmissions tend to act up around 60K miles. You already have 90K miles, so I would suggest that you start with replacing the solenoid block before you invest in costly repairs.

Ok...

Check the internal wiring harness from point to point with a continuity tester when you have the pan off. Some members had the PCM flashed, then installed a new tune after they replaced the solenoid block to upgrade the shifting pattern.
