2004 4.0, P0401 code

So my 2004 Explorer with 4.0 has the P0401 code. I wish the dpfe sensor were a separate part, but on the '04 it is built onto the egr valve (though it does have 2 hoses that go to it/from it). Has anyone been able to clean the egr related passages and keep this code cleared for good? Do I simply pull the 2 small hoses off and clean inside of them that go to the dpfe sensor? Suggestions appreciated. With pics, even better.

Truck has 96k miles. Throttle body is clean.

Just a follow-up. Replaced the egr valve "assembly".. What a stupid design to have the dpfe sensor as part of the egr valve now...
