2004 cruise control issue

I have a 2004 explorer and y cruise control is acting erraticly. I have a hard time getting the cruise to engage and it will disengage all by itself no appearent reason, any thoughts?

My '03 XLT was doing something similar. Search for "cruise control cutoff switch" and you will find info on this topic. The switch is on the master cylinder and was an easy replacement and fix.
