2004 explorer xlt transmission problems

04 transmission

I have been looking into the tranny problem. I found mycarstats.com to be very useful. They had 10 complaints regarding the exact issue, as well as 10 tsb's listed. The two that are what I am experiencing is #17883 and #17736.

My dealer has also replaced the solenoid, seems to be working fine now.

Mine does have a rough idle exactly like what you are describing, what do you think it is?

Thanks in advance

Transmission help, please!

I'm back. I have a similar problem, involving solenoids also, it seems.
I had a transmission problem (no reverse) a few weeks ago, and talked to several of you then. I ended up replacing my transmission with a full rebuilt one to the tune of $1500 ( in Canada, so cost more $ then U.S.) It rode much better with the new tranny so I figured it had been going for awhile.
I still got a slight clunk when it was cold and I put it in reverse. This morning I discovered a problem with Drive. No pickup, could almost floor it without it taking off. Also had the check engine light come on. I took it directly to my mechanic, they test drove it and agreed the transmission was slipping. The scanner showed a 'factory code' for the check engine light.
I left it with them, I have since called and they 'think' it might be a loose or broken wire, or a solenoid. Would either of these things not be visible or checked when the tranny was removed and replaced?? They are also concerned about the tranny 'reverse' clunk. I am slow (and yes, I'm female) when it comes to mechanics....I'm feeling a little 'ripped off '. My truck remains in the shop. The rebuilt has a warranty (tho not very big). Help please.

I have a 2002 ford explorer. Ever since I have owned the vehicle it has had the reverse clunk problem when shifting into reverse. It acted like it had a stall or something when going into reverse. Maybe a 2 second delay? Well today my wife calls me and explains that she cannot go above 30mph because the car just wont shift. I had her take it to Napa and they scanned it and the selenoid code came up.

Is this a recall? I feel the tranny was fine. It never grinding into any gears etc, it just all of a sudden wont shift. It really sounds like its the selenoid issue... I race cars all the time, and when the tranny is about to go out it first grinds in gears, messing up synchros and then gears and then finally takes a big fat you know what.

Any idea on where this selenoid is located and the cost of the part?
