2004 ford explorer won't engage any gears

So I am having trouble figuring out what happens with my explore I drove it to Costco and then stoped at a gas station to get gas and when I went to put my car in drive it basicly slid past every gear basicly not catching any gear at all the car turns over and is ideling perfect but when I go to get it out of park in to drive it slides right thru all the gears like it's almost no longer attached if that makes sense ! It was driving perfect and then this happens put of no where ! My transmission never showed sign of rough labor it wasnt slipping or banging no check engine lights at all any one know or has had this issue ?

Sounds like your gear shifter may have sheared off. Open up the steering column housing and see if it's still in one piece.
