I have a 2004 Eddie Bauer 4x4 with a V8. The transmission is one of the ones that doesn't have a dipstick.

The other day I was going up a small, uneven hill and one of the wheels slipped. The transmission apparently slipped. It start bucking when I gave it some gas and when I did give it gas there was a grinding noise. I stopped the truck and turned it off and back on and it was fine. It did it yesterday as well as I was crossing some uneven pavement where there was some construction.

I think I know what the ugly answer/solution will be but does anyone have any suggestions and or comments about this situation? Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated.

It was set to 4x4 Auto. T

The transmission doesn't have a dipstick. I am not sure how to check it. I am also not sure how to check the transfer case fluid level.

Any help, suggestions, or ideas would be appreciated.

So could low fluid level in the transfer case case it to slip?

What is weird is that after I turn the truck off and back on it is fine. The transmission shifts fine, it isn't jerky or anything.

Can the transfer case be serviced? What all would be involved with that?

Thanks for the help.

The low fluid condition in the transfer case could cause it to rattle, and run hot. The low fluid condition in the transmission could make it slip, and run hot. Each thing has a different function. Check the fluid level in both of them.

What is the service interval on getting the transmission fluid changed? I just bought this truck and am not sure if it has ever been changed.
