2006 explorer lost power and stalled wont re start

My 2006 ford explorer v6 lost all power nad stalled out and will not start. Here is the path to what happened. I was at a stop light and noticed a small vibration and then the car stalled out when I took off. I re-started the car and on my way. About 2 miles it started loosing power and then I had no engine power at all and it stalled out and I coasted to saftey. Now it will not start and does not seem to want to turn the engine over at all. I did see a puff of black smoke in my rear view when it stalled out and it was making a loud windy type sound. Not over heating on guage and oil is still in engine. Before I take it in a wanted some possible issues so I don't get my head ripped off by the Mr. Fix-it guy! Thanks for your time in advance!

Are there any MIL lights on? is the battery in good condition? If the alternator went bad and you started running on battery it could of killed the battery.
