2006 Explorer V8 Oil

Hello,

I just bought a mint 2006 Explorer 4.6 Eddie Bauer with 200K miles from South Carolina.

I am thinking about using Full Synthetic 10w30 vs the recommended 5w20.

What are your thoughts?

I use 10w30 full synthetic in my 2010 V8 Mountaineer and 2007 Mustang GT with no issues. The only reason for Ford to spec 5w-20 is for improved gas mileage to meet CAFE requirements. Otherwise it would have been 5w30 or 10w30.

Considering your winter temps, I'd run 5W-30 in winter, or just year-round if you don't change it every 6 mos.

OP, that's a great idea. I started using the same after 100k, and the engine is still in good shape at 330K.
