Hi Guys,

I followed the "sticky" thread regarding console/bezel removal and had no problems getting everything loose UNTIL I got the 4 bolts removed that actually hold the radio in. The radio just doesn't want to pull out and I don't want to break anything by yanking on it.

Has anyone removed the radio on this new generation Explorer? It would only pull out about 1-2", not nearly enough to get to the connectors in back. I got an iPod and want to hook up a "Neo" unit, which allows you to control the iPod thru the steering wheel, etc.

Any tips on radio removal? Thanks!

I assume no liability for what I am about to tell you.

If you are certain you removed the four bolts that fasten the radio in, then you just need to wiggle and pull it out. I had the exact same issue on our 2006. I pulled the trim, removed the bolts and pulled and it came out 1/2" I looked for 15min. thinking I forgot a bolt. I didn't. I just needed to pull and wiggle it. The harness in the back binds just a bit. It's VERY tight back there if you are adding extra wiring.

Good luck!

four screws and mine came right out no problems at all

I added a Parrot bluetooth harness, an HD radio harness, an ipod harness, and the wiring to go to a line out converter and back from an amp. I can verify this.

prob just have a harness stuck on the back frame thats all

Not an issue for me..

Mine came out failry easily, but I have to agree with the previous poster who stated that the area behind the radio is tight.

It is very possible that the wiring cables plugged into the back of the radio are hooked onto something else. There is some sort of cage/chassis-like setup back there.

The "wiggle" process should help you get them unhooked, if this is the case.

Also, with the front console removed, you may want to try reaching underneath to try and pull the cables off the back that way. Not sure if this is even possible, and if so, you'll need some small, skinny hands.

Good luck.
