04 Exp Eddie- 140,000
I know everything is about how the vehicle is maintained.

So I have a 04 Eddie with about 140,000 on the clock. I have to say that thankfully I had the extended warranty because it saved my wallet a great amount of times. From transmission replacement, wheel bearings, engine work and etc. I purchased this about 9-10 years ago and it only had 50,000 miles on it.

The question is that the vehicle needs some work but being kind of hesitant to sinking more money into it. I would like to get a 2006. The ones I am looking at are high miles -- they're priced around $5-6k which I can pay for in cash without worrying about payments. Is this generation better with high miles.

I will definitely have the vehicle inspected--Should I have a Ford shop perform the inspection? Any Advice? Thank you

The v8 has fewer flaws but they are expensive fixes. Be sure the plugs have been changed on the V8 as they break off in the heads on the early models, and budget to replace the exhaust manifolds as they crack and warp and break off the studs in the heads. I wouldn't go near a V6 with the timing chain design, and the car transmission, its a time bomb waiting to go off.

Buy the 2010. The 2006 has a known wiring harness issue and some teething pains being the first year of the generation.

Good trucks but not for that kind of money with high miles. I have 180 000kms on mine and i think id only get like 4000 CAD for it with a safety slip and more like 2500 without

Get a 2009 or 2010, and you will avoid several known issues. Still 8-9 model years old, so you should be able to find good prices. Don't forget to consider a Mountaineer, unless you need a low-range transfer case.

bought my 06 EB V6 for $7k w/115k in 7/16, now have 139k. needed cat converters but with no emissions inspection in my area, have not replaced them; replaced ATF, brake and PS fluids, new brakes, struts, and water pump and that is extent of expenses thus far. I occasionally tow my 22' travel trailer and have experienced no problems. Good luck in searching for your explorer.
