My door well says 245-65-17's

My local Canadian Tire's selection of those is limited, but has a lot more of the 245-70-17's for a selection.

I am looking at getting some AT's, and was wondering if the difference between the "65" and "70" will make much of a difference ?

I bought the truck last year and they had the Hankook Dynapro HT's at the 235-70-17 size.

Just had one of those with a ply seperation, so the proper size spare is on one for now. 4 new ones are in order and was just wondering before I buy.

What all size and type have you "Explorerists" gone with ?

The difference is about a 1/2" in diameter. The 70 being the larger. Cooper tires makes a good AT tire in the factory size with a much higher load rating than factory which is what I run right now. I was having the same dilemma a while back too, but I opted for using Cooper ATRs in the factory size so I didn't have to worry about getting the speedometer altered for the larger tires.

the Discoverer's ? Been looking at those, as well as the Toyo Open Country a.t. / a.t.2's

Yes the Discoverers. Looked at the Toyos but thought that they were overpriced and I believe that the discoverers got much better ratings in the snow from guys that put them on their plow trucks. I like the ride and quality of the Coopers so much that all my vehicles run some type of Cooper tire now.

The change in height may not be a bad thing for the speedometer. I went from 235/70R16s to 255/70R16s and now my speedometer is just about perfectly accurate. It was about 1.5-2 MPH too fast on the speedometer before. Verified by GPS. Of course your mileage may vary.

I have the Kelly Safari Signatures, and I love them. They were flawless in all of the snow and ice we've had recently. They're inexpensive, but good quality.

I have the 18" wheels, and the stock size was 235/65R18, and I went with a 265/65R18. The speedometer is now dead on, whereas before it was 2mph @ 60mph fast (indicating 60mph, but I was only doing 58).
