2007 Ex - What is the Radio Aux input for?

I have the Aux input on the front of my console, am I able to simply plug my ipod into it and use the radio contols, or do I need to get a Ipod adaptor kit that plugs into the back of the radio?

If I just plug the ipod in, where do I get the wire?

if it is the connection that I am thinking of, all you need is a 1/8" stereo male to male cable which plugs from your headphone jack on the ipod to the aux jack.

then you select the aux input and have a direct feed of audio to your stereo. I really wish my 01 had one of those ports. So I am stuck using a tape adapter because I cannot stand the poor sound quality of those FM adapters.
