I have a 2007 Explorer Ltd. with power assisted running boards. The driver's side running board fails to retract about half the time. Anyone know what the problem is ?
Does the motor for the running board system stop or does it keep running even though the running board stops before it is fully retracted? Check the wedge and wedge screw as well as the three retaining bolts. One of those bolts or the wedge screw may have come loose.
Did you ever get this figured out? I have the same problem, they replaced the driver's on warranty, but the pass is screwed now and not on warranty, the motor seems to be stalling, all the wedges underneath seem sturdy.....ugh..

I have a 2007 Limited with power running boards also, and they have never given me any problems until now. I have 53k miles on it so its outside of warrenty. About a week ago the drivers side running board failed to retract once. It later went back in, but yesterday when I came back from lunch, it failed again, and after multiple trips in the truck, it still has not retracted.
Everything looks fine, so it may be just a motor failure. I just had it in dealership about a month ago for a 3 row seat power motor failure that cost $350 to replace. I'll run it by there today to see what it is and the cost.
Please post reply if any one has any ideas about this issue.
Well, I talked my dealer into them paying for a new motor ($350) and I'll pay the install ($250). The motor is nationally backordered so it sounds like they are going through quite a few of them. I do love the boards though.
For now I assisted the pass running board up on the truck and then told the computer to turn them off so they stay up. Basically the motors go and as they die the computer thinks that the running board is obstructed when the motor is really dying and stalling out and so it cycles it over and over again...that is until the motor can't even lower the board.
I would still get one with the power boards though, they seem bigger and easier to use than the permanent mount, I suppose they are since they are tucked away and there isn't danger of catching them on stuff.
Well, I took the truck to the local Dealer and the cost w/labor was right at $500 to put the new motor in. They found another dealer with one of the motors in Parts Dept. so the shipped it over and replaced it same day. The Truck has 53,500 miles on it, so I guess that's to be expected.
