2006 Mercury Mountaineer
First off, I have read every thread containing those terms and still cannot find the information needed to solve my problem.

I just purchased my 2006 Mountaineer knowing that the motors were unplugged. I took both running boards off the SUV and lubricated them. The driver side will go down without assistance, but will not go up without assistance. With a little help it will go up though. Meanwhile, the passenger side makes a loud whining/stripped gear noise when the door is opened and closed. I cannot get the running board to budge. It is stuck in the down position. The shaft coming out of the motor will not budge either, I tried with some vice grips.

I would really like to take the motor off, but I can't seem to figure it out. I have taken the running boards back off the SUV. I removed all three allen head screws that hold the motor on. I have also removed the screw that holds in the wedge, as well as the wedge. How do you get the motor out? Do you beat on the end of the shaft? Does the whole shaft come out, or does it just come out of the motor? I would like to try to move the loud running board up and down by hand, but I can't do it with the motor still in, so I hope I can with it out.

Also, does anyone have the correct part numbers for the motors? I searched fordparts.com and tasca ford parts with the part numbers that are on the motors and neither pull up anything. Please comment with any other valuable information about this topic. I would like to put both of them up and just leave them up, if I can't replace the motors.

Thanks in advance!

Never mind, I decided just to leave them both permanently down; since I couldn't manually put up the passenger side (the gear mechanism connected to the motor is locked up). I took the boards off and painted the brackets with undercoating. They were in horrible shape. I reattached them and unplugged the motors. I give up! It seems to be a problem that is going to reoccur anyways, so at 83,300 miles, I will call them dead.
