We have recently acquired a 2007 Ford Explorer and I am hoping that this is the Area , Thread?, to ask this question. This SUV has a Ford installed Class "A" trailer package. I need to take the Brake control out of my old van and install it in the explorer. What I am looking for is something that will tell me where the Electrical cable 'starts' that supplies the Trailer Connector. I can see from the connector itself which pin does what, but I must find the other end of it in order to tie the Brake Control to the proper wire. So my question is " Where does this cable start ?"

Thank you, Jerry A

There is a connector for the brake controls under the dash between the steering wheel and the door. It is close to the front side (toward the driver) and you have to poke your head back under there to see it. You should have the connector and a pig-tail cable stored with your jack to connect to it.

Where are you going to mount your controller?

Not to hijack this thread, but I have an '07 I am in the process of putting a brake controller on. I have found the connector under the dash. What I have not been able to find is where those wires go from there.

I know the blue brake wire needs to be routed to a new 7 way plug in the back. I've looked under the rear of the vehicle as far as just past the spare tire area and can't see where it might be routed or terminate. All the online resources I can find are for '05 and earlier.

Anyone have any idea where these wires go once they run through the firewall? Thanks!

Thank you, I have not yet gotten far enough to consider where to mount the Brake Unit. On my Astro-Van it is mounted approx knee level to the left of the steering column. I will look for the connector under the dash tonight.
Thanks again, Jerry A

Brake controller location

I tow a 30 foot trailer with my 06. The brake controller was installed under the steering column. I haven't had any issues with its location since its been installed. As for installing it, It just needed a pigtail that went from my controller to the unit.
