- 2008 Explorer
Hello everyone.
I have a 2008 Explorer that has been with me since about 2013 now. Around 2016, I have it to my daughter to drive and she’s been driving it since.
Well, last week the car started making ticking noises apparently, and so we got it into a mechanic to check out what’s been going on. Apparently a valve has a hole in it and it’s going to need a new engine. According to my daughter, the change oil light had never turned on and that’s what she’s relied on to get the oil changed. I was told it’ll be anywhere from $5,000 to $8,000 to replace. My issue is that with the car being that old, and with as many miles it has on it, I don’t know if it’ll be worth to replace the engine. We may need to just get a new car but my daughter loves that car and is heart broken about it. Does anyone know of any alternative cheap options or methods we could use to preserve the car instead?
