Just needed some inspiration on what to do next to the explorer.

I'm thinking about doing the following mods, but it's so hard finding aftermarket performance parts for the explorers.
Vehicle: 2008 Ford Explorer Limited AWD V8 W/Exhaust Cutouts & HID's

1.) Hypertech Programmer
2.) Long Tube Headers (haven't found 1 pair yet)
3.) Custom 3.5" exhaust with the cutouts built in.
4.) K&N Cold Air Intake (painted the same colour as the body)
5.) Upgraded Mass Air Flow Sensor.
6.) Bigger Throttle Body.
7.) MSD Ignition with upgraded Ingnition Coils, Wires and Spark Plugs.
8.) Ford Racing Valve Covers (painted the same colour as the body)
9.) Westin Bull Bar (including 2 4.5" Fogs with 16K Hids in them.

Some of these parts are so hard to find! Was wondering if any of these modifications have been done, and how much hp/torque/fuel economy gain did you guys see!

Thanks!

1. Get the SCT Programmer from Henson Performance. He's a member on this board.
2. There's no company at the moment that makes headers for 06+ V8 explorers. You could possibly try using 4.6l headers from a mustang but not sure if it work without modifications.
3. 3.5" tubing is too big (IMHO). You can go with a Magnaflow or Gibson catback.
4. There's KKM or K&N. Both are good.
5. Get ahold of the guys at Zabteck.
6. Zabteck makes a TB for 06+ explorers.
7. Both MSD and Accel make COP's for the 4.6l. Accel much cheaper. I don't know anyone who's tried the MSD's. There's no plug wires in the 4.6l. As for spark plugs, go with motorcraft or Autolite HT1. I have Autolite and work good. Do some research with changing plugs. You may need the plug removal tool which runs about $60 incase you break a plug (very common).
8 & 9. Your choice.

As for hp/torque gains. Check over on the Sport Trac side, there's a owner who's done dyno runs with certain mods.

I've done the K n' N intake and the Hypertech programmer. WIth the intake you get +11 hp and the programmer +29 hp. Notice a better performance in trottle response and some minor fuel economy........mostly on the highway.

I just want that 4.6 to be running as healthy as possible. Planning on dyno tuning it after i'm done the setup. Wonder what the gains on hp and tq would be once i'm completed. I would love to see close to 400hp to the crank. Considering the awd eliminated a substantial amount of whp due to the moving components.

Theres no way you will get 400 crank hp without nitrous or supercharger.

I would think it's possible with the mods listed and a 91 octane tune. I don't know how much abuse that transmission and awd system can handle. Nobody has ever explained to me the pros and technical information about my explorer. So far i'm loving the ride on it.

There is a heads and intake kit from ford motorsports that should put it at 400hp at the crank. But the kit is $3500 plus installation. Honestly...shop for a Supercharger if you want more power.
