2008 Sport Trac Limited
Hey, I'm new at this forum thing......so if I do this wrong, forgive me and teach me how its done!
Just to let you know what I drive, I have a 2008 Sport Trac Limited, black with a 4.6 V8. I love the truck, but the seats are very uncomfortable, when we go on long trips it works on my back and butt!
I was wondering if anyone has tried to install seats from a newer model or even an Explorer and if so, how did that go? Any ideals and advice are welcome.
Thanks
Billy

Do you have the leather seats?

Since its a Limited, it will have leather. The biggest issue you are going to have here is that you have airbags in the seats to be concerned with if you swap out seats - newer model seats will have them and you would likely have to swap wiring and connectors, or swap the airbags. Disabling the airbags would compromise your safety. You might be able to look at the MKX, MKZ seats for the same year and find something more comfortable that would still interchange
What I would recommend is finding a good upholstery shop and discuss with them what you are looking for. There are multiple grades of foam stiffness available, plus memory and gel foams. They can reshape your seat base quite easily, and put various foam types in the areas you want, even leaving a coccyx 'dent' for example if you have tailbone issues. Most people like a little softer 'butt, a little better lower lumbar support and stiffer foam on the sides to 'hold you' in position. The leather is simple to match which allows you to only be concerned with the fronts and that can save to a lot.
Is this cheap? Probably not. You could buy a few different memory/gel/air cushions and lumbar aids on Amazon to try out also.
I'm lucky, I like my seats quite well. They are not in the league of my old Audi V8 quattro sport seats, but I'm not tearing up the tarmac doing a buck forty in it either - I've got a Grand Sport for that.
