2011 Explorer Bluetooth Noise

Bluetooth noise update

Update on my 2012 Explorer bluetooth noise. Went in to dealer again to install a new mic. It did not solve the problem. For 2 days the dealer said they did everything theFford engineers suggested, but no luck. They rebooted, reinstalled updates, new mic, and even used their own phone and still windtunnel noise (their own words) when the car is moving. The dealer also said they experimented with two other explorers on the lot and the same problem occured. They told Ford about that also. The dealership has no solution for the problem. Asked me to check back every so often to see if they have heard anything. Until then we have bluetooth that is useless as long as the car is moving! SAD!!! Ford cant figure this out!

If you go to page 3, towards the bottom under "Phone Compatibility", they mention they've improved "Noise and echo cancellation during phone calls has been improved to enhance call quality".

Mcdonas, I went through most of what you experienced and the dealer techs had no answer. Check out this post about the January update. We can keep our fingers crossed that their is light at the end of the tunnel (and no wind).

Our Ex is going in today for this and a couple other things. I'll post back if our dealer invents a fix.

Cory,

I called my rep back, was that the right thing to do? I think they're ordering a new mic...great.

I have had 3 different APIM modules with supposedly the latest updates, I think the last one was Canadian at least that is what the diagnosis screen shows.
The blue tooth noise is bad. Mounting it basically to the roof in the headliner surely does not seem to be a good idea. There is no insulation around the mike so of course if it rains and you are trying to use it no one can hear you even if you are stopped!!

My 08 with the bluetooth on the mirror did not have this. It it's not broken why fix it? Ford you are not doing well. Please fix these issues?

Actually, no mic was installed. Turns out it's the air conditioning blowing that causes the noise. Ford says they tried it with 3 phones.

We pleaded that we have already tried that but we're asked to "just try it".

I guess we'll see what the FCSR's can do for us. We also plan to call the service advisor on the way home after we pick it up later today.

PS. they also claim to have fixed the windshield whistle/buzz...we'll see. Road trip this weekend will be the test.

Car54,

That air conditioning dodge was the first one that they tried on me. Of course, with the AC turned off, I still have the problem. That eliminates that. They are just trying to buy time in hopes that a real fix is on the way.

Car 54 & flaguy,

Please don’t hesitate to message me if you’d like any other details forwarded.

Here is a list of thngs that do not fix the wind noise., air conditioning fan, insulation between the roof and mic, type of phone. felt over the mic. They all have little to no effect The thing that does work is to stop moving the car. This reduces the interoir noise level. So I will wait for the big fix but I have my doubts. Something that would work is a dual mic system. One mic to cancel ambient noise the other to pick up your voice. Seems like a system that relies heavliy on voice reconigition would have a high grade mic. It would imporve the entire system. Unfortunatley I dont think this could ever be added to the current system.

Thanks Cory

Well...got the call today from Ford Customer Service using the upcoming release as the reason that I should live with a noisy bluetooth (while in motion) until Ford is ready to release a fix. Oh they don't actually see bluetooth NOISE as a to be addressed issue, it's more about compatibility.

It's great that the update is coming out and all, but using it as a blanket excuse to stall a situation that isn't claimed to fix the issue is just wrong.

At this point, the Ford Customer Service route has only added more phone calls to talk about a problem that "doesn't" exist. I'm hopeful a fix does arrive very soon.

Car54,

I'm with you. There has been little indication that the bluetooth problem will be fixed by the biggie release next year. All we can do is hope it has been addressed and fixed. I think most of us are more interested in having MFT work as advertised than a few window dressing display changes. It will be back to the customer service routine if we are not happy with the results.

I am hugely disappointed with the phone sound in the EX. I'm crossing my fingers that the update does fix it, but if it doesn't I don't think we can do much about it. It's really embarrassing when people make a big deal about how nice the car is & then have them laugh when I talk to them from it.

In my Buick Enclave CXL the AC blower cut off when the Bluetooth was being used. I can't believe Ford didn't think of including this. Maybe in the update?

I have turned the AC completely off and it does not help with this problem.

Shutting off the air might be fine in Michigan but it is not the thing to do in South Florida in the summer.
Now at least my APIM module seems to work with a rare reboot but it changes the radio when I start up the vehicle from Sirius to AM and the display goes from Economy mileage to the round TAC. One of these days it will work hopefully it will be soon.
I bought the technology and I should be able to use it. My TV's and computer don't do what MYFT does.
