Has anyone seen a published number for the turning radius on the '11 Explorer? It has be "not available" for every site I have seen. I was always pleased with the tight turns on my "02.

Maybe one of our members with a new 2011 can go measure a full turn or something?

Someone can be a peach... :D

Nice avatar! :D

This is not a very scientific number, but I noted the other day that the Ex could turn around in my street (which my F150 SuperCrew definitely could not.)

I just measured the street width, and it's around 40 feet. I was probably parked a foot or so from one side, and I cleared it on the other side by a few feet. This was in no way a "max lock" turn-around, so there is some more that could be gained there.

I just looked at the turning radius on an 08, and it was listed as 18.4'. My "measurements" don't seem all that exciting after reading that. I can measure more precisely tomorrow.

How is it measured? Center of vehicle to center, or outside tire to outside tire?

My 4th gen has a awesome turning radius, way better then our old Volvo S60:thumbsup:

r= turning radius...

:)

Best I could find from online search for curb to curb turning circle --
2010 = 36.8', 2011 = 39.7'.

Joe beat me to it. Radius is half the diameter so the '08 is actually 36.8 feet. Sounds about the same as the '11.

That sounds about right. When I tried the curb-curb turn around in my street again today, it was pretty close to the width, so ~40'. Take the radius of that semicircle, and it's just under 20'.

It's definitely surprising, given how big the new Ex feels.

Compared to my 95 Explorer, the turning radius is a bit too large for me. However, it's still a good turning radius because of the shorter wheelbase so it's all good.

Bringing up a very old post, has anyone ever seen a published turing radius or turning circle for the explorer. Ford seems to want to withhold that info from the public! I don't think it is too bad but why won't they list it!

It's better than my 2010 Chevy Cobalt. The salesman had me do a u-turn on my test drive just to show off the radius. I actually look forward to u-turns. Sorry I don't have numbers right now.

This might seem silly...but you have your explorer, right? If so, you already know it isn't measured in numbers, it's listed as "this is awesome". :D

It's at least feels FAR better than my 08 was.

That's funny. I feel my '06 has a better turning radius than my mom's '11 and she thought it wasn't as good as expected. It's definitely not bad, though.

I agree with "pretty awsome" but I find it strange that ford won't list it. I finally found that consumer reports listed it at 40 feet, not exceptional but not bad either. The relatively short wheelbase helps. I was trying to find this info before I bought since I despise cars with large turning circles, much harder to maneuver.

Very strange. I can uturn on a two lane road without thinking. My 08 could not.

Maybe someday I can test them against each other. :D But I don't have enough room at my house to do so right now.
